Thai Gold Food is a Thai eatery that serves good and affordable food. Thai Gold Food is frequently compared to its neighbor Aroy-Dee and after trying both out, I still cannot contend which is better. Both are equally good so I guess it boils down to whichever is less crowded. The Phad Thai ($4) was simple and unpretentious. The rice noodles had a nice texture to it and the little bits of egg in it were so flavorful. It was fried well and fragrant. The serving was big and they were generous with the ingredients, which makes it a really value-for-money dish. I really liked the Green Curry with Chicken ($4) too, although it was a bit too spicy. It was fine when paired with white rice. The gravy was thick and delectable, unlike most other places that serve a watered down version of it. There were big juicy pieces of chicken in it too.
Sunshine Plaza is basically a shrine of good thai food. Three thai food restaurants line up in a row on one side of the Plaza. For me, Thai Gold is indeed king of the bunch. I've tried the Pad Thai here and the Pineapple Rice, and both are so worthy of coming back for more, especially for this price. In Thai Gold, you could easily get a hearty genuine thai meal for less than $8. My serving of Pineapple Rice cost no more than $5, and was filling enough for one. The rice was very well oiled and cooked, strategically filled with pineapple and topped with pork floss and cashew nuts. Very tasty, very fragrant. My counterpart today had the rice with fried garlic chicken, which was surprisingly amazing, and literally blew my mind with how crisp it was, and how rich the garlic taste was. The tenderness was also something I hadn't expected from a shop that serves out food as cheap and quick as this. One dampener for me is the thai iced tea, which looked good with its layers, but wasn't very 'together', even if it was very sweet and thick. In summary: great great value, good genuine thai food. I'd just come back from Bangkok a week ago and found that the tastes here were very familiar to those along the streets of Bangkok. Sawadikrap!!!
